Neighborhood Diabetes Shoppe was established in 1998 by Lou and Kathleen Belmonte, a husband and wife diabetes supply sales manager and a certified diabetes educator, respectively, who incorporated their passion for serving the large and growing diabetic population of Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Using a “high touch” approach to providing education and support -- along with testing supplies -- to assist providers, patients and payors, ND has grown from an idea at the Belmonte’s kitchen table to thousands of customers.
Early in 2004, seasoned entrepreneurs Tom Cronin and Bill Haylon joined the team, bringing with them capital and added experience in managing rapidly growing companies. With their addition, the company’s goal became to expand beyond a terrific MA and NH base into a more dominant presence across New England and beyond, while still focusing on Lou and Kathleen’s initial mission of filling the education and support “gap” that is so clearly apparent in the diabetes marketplace today. In recognition of the expansion of the “high touch” offering to new patients and new geographies, the company was renamed Neighborhood Diabetes.
Today, in addition to blood glucose testing supplies, Neighborhood Diabetes provides insulin pumps and related supplies as well as a full line of maintenance medications to its customers with diabetes using the same convenient home delivery, “high touch” approach it began with in 1998.
